Action Network

Email Marketing

Connect AI agents to Action Network, an organizing and advocacy platform for progressive campaigns. Agents manage activists, events, tags, and action pages, upsert people by email, and read email message performance via an OSDI-compliant API key.

18 actions available
A new supporter row arrives in a connected form or spreadsheet
Agent reads the email, name, and source of the sign-up
Agent runs List People to detect an existing supporter before creating one
Agent runs Add or Upsert Person to merge or create the record and apply tags
Organizer notified in Slack with the new segment size and tag applied
Sending an email to the tagged segment routed to the organizer for approval
On approval, the organizer sends the message from Action Network and the agent records it

What This Integration Enables

Agents work across the Action Network organizing surface. On the people side they list and read activists, add or upsert a person by email (merging rather than duplicating, with tags applied and removed in the same call), and update an existing person. They create events and read events, list the action pages a group runs (forms, petitions, fundraising pages, and advocacy campaigns), and manage tags: list them, read one, and apply a tag to a person with a tagging. They read the email program, listing messages with their delivery statistics and reading a single message in full. They pull responses for reporting: form submissions and petition signatures, each linked to the person who submitted. Because the connector has no triggers, flows are driven by upstream events (a new form row, a scheduled sync) or run on demand, and the send itself stays a human decision.

Without FlowRunner

Supporters imported by hand Sign-ups are exported from one tool and pasted into Action Network on a schedule
Duplicate contacts pile up The same supporter is entered twice under two emails with no merge step
Message performance read one report at a time Sent, opened, and clicked stats are checked by opening each message in the dashboard

With FlowRunner

Supporters upserted on arrival Add or Upsert Person merges by email as each sign-up lands, with tags applied in the same call
Contacts deduplicated by email Matching on email address means an existing supporter is updated, not duplicated
Message stats pulled into one place List Messages and Get Message feed sent, opened, and clicked stats to a shared dashboard

Use Case Scenarios

Deduplicated Supporter Sync

A batch of new sign-ups lands in a connected spreadsheet from an external petition drive. The agent reads each row, runs Add or Upsert Person keyed on email, and applies the campaign's tags in the same call. Because Action Network matches on email address, a supporter who already exists is merged and updated rather than added twice. The agent posts a summary to the organizing channel: how many were new, how many were merges, and how many were tagged. The activist list grows without the duplicate cleanup that manual imports leave behind.

Event Announcement and RSVP Reporting

An organizer schedules a phone bank and the agent creates it with Create Event, then announces it to the team in Slack with the event's browser URL. As the event fills, the agent reads Get Event and the group's action pages to pull attendance and submissions for a weekly report. Petition signatures and form submissions are read with List Petition Signatures and List Form Submissions, each linked to the signer, and appended to a reporting sheet. Coordination and reporting run off the same records the campaign already keeps.

Segment and Send

An organizer wants to email everyone who signed a specific petition but has not yet RSVP'd to the next event. The agent reads List Petition Signatures, cross-references RSVPs, and applies a tag to the resulting segment with Add Tagging. It then assembles the segment and the draft message and stops. The send is not the agent's call. The organizer reviews who is in the segment and what the message says, approves, and sends the blast from Action Network. The agent records the resulting message with List Messages so its performance flows into the dashboard.

Human-in-Loop Highlight

Sending an email to a supporter segment is exactly where an agent should stop and ask. A blast to the wrong list, or with the wrong ask, cannot be recalled once it is out. When a flow reaches the point of emailing a segment, the agent does not send. It assembles the segment (built from tags, petition signatures, or form submissions), reports its size, attaches the draft, and routes to the organizer via Slack: "Ready to send to the 'signed, not RSVP'd' segment. Draft attached. Approve the send, edit the copy, or narrow the segment?" The organizer decides and sends the message from Action Network. The agent then reads the message back with Get Message so its sent, opened, and clicked stats land on the dashboard. Data sync, deduplication, and tagging flow through automatically. The send gets a human in the loop.

Agent Capabilities

18 actions

People

4
  • List People Lists activists in your group, newest first, with pagination and an optional OData filter expression. Used to detect an existing supporter before creating one.
  • Get Person Retrieves a single person by their Action Network UUID, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, custom fields, and links to related collections.
  • Add or Upsert Person Adds a new activist or updates an existing one, matching on email address so records merge rather than duplicate. Either an email or a phone number is required. Applies and removes tags in the same call.
  • Update Person Updates an existing person by UUID. Only the fields you include are changed. To add or remove tags, use Add or Upsert Person or Add Tagging instead.

Events

3
  • List Events Lists events in your group, with pagination and an optional OData filter expression.
  • Get Event Retrieves a single event by UUID, including title, description, start date, location, browser URL, and links to related collections such as attendances.
  • Create Event Creates a new event in your group with a title and optional description, start date, and location. Returns the created event with its UUID and browser URL for announcements.

Action Pages

4
  • List Forms Lists the forms your group runs, with pagination.
  • List Petitions Lists the petitions your group runs, with pagination.
  • List Fundraising Pages Lists the fundraising pages your group runs, with pagination.
  • List Advocacy Campaigns Lists the advocacy campaigns (letter and email-to-target campaigns) your group runs, with pagination.

Tags

3
  • List Tags Lists all tags in your group. Tags categorize people and drive segmentation.
  • Get Tag Retrieves a single tag by UUID, including its name and a link to its taggings collection.
  • Add Tagging Applies a tag to a person by creating a tagging. Provide the tag UUID and the person UUID. Used to build a segment for a targeted send.

Messages

2
  • List Messages Lists email messages in your group, including subject, status, and (for sent messages) statistics such as total targeted, sent, opened, and clicked.
  • Get Message Retrieves a single email message by UUID, including subject, body, status, targets, and delivery statistics. Used to read performance back after a send.

Responses

2
  • List Form Submissions Lists submissions for a given form, each linked to the person who submitted. Used for reporting and downstream follow-up.
