Use Case Scenarios

Rate-Shopped Label per Order

A new order needs a label. The agent runs Validate Address on the destination, Create Shipment to get rate options, then Get Shipment Rates to compare carriers. It calls Create Transaction (Buy Label) against the cheapest qualifying rate and writes the tracking number back to the order. The carrier choice is made on the rate for every order, not on whichever carrier the team defaulted to months ago.

International Shipment with Customs

A cross-border order ships. The agent calls Create Customs Declaration and Create Customs Item to build the paperwork, attaches it to Create Shipment, and buys the label with Create Transaction (Buy Label). For destinations served by a specific carrier network, a companion lookup can surface the nearest [DHL](/integrations/dhl) service point in the customer's confirmation. Delivery Exception Response

On Tracking Status Updated fires with a FAILURE or RETURNED status. Human-in-Loop Highlight

A returned parcel on a small order is a routine automatic reship. A high-value order that failed delivery is a decision, and human-in-the-loop is the pattern where the agent stops, gathers the context, and asks the person who owns the call. When On Tracking Status Updated reports a FAILURE or RETURNED status on an order above a configurable value, the agent does not silently reship or write it off. It assembles the tracking history, the order value, and the customer, then messages ops in Slack: "Order #7702, value $610, came back RETURNED. Reship to the same address, contact the customer for a new one, or refund? History attached." Ops chooses.
